*** Invasive Species Alert! -- Must Act NOW!

The Senate is currently debating the Highway bill (S. 732) and could vote on it any day now. As we’ve reported before, S. 732 contains Invasive Species language that could open the door to a property rights nightmare even worse than the dreaded Endangered Species Act.

Call both of your Senators NOW and tell them to take ALL Invasive Species language out of the Highway bill! This is URGENT. Call the Senate Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your Senators by name.

Section 166 of the Highway bill is titled, "Control of invasive plant species and establishment of native species." This section gives the federal government control over which plant species can be planted along highways. Make no mistake. This is the camel’s nose under the tent. A MAJOR new radical environmental land-use/land grab agenda will become LAW. Section 166 MUST BE TAKEN OUT OF THE SENATE HIGHWAY BILL!

Imagine the Endangered Species Act on steroids. Now multiply its devastating effect on property rights one-hundred fold. That should give you a pretty good idea of what Invasive Species legislation will mean for property owners in every state, county, and city in this nation.

Invasive Species is the radical greens’ key to controlling every square inch of land in the United States. And the Senate Highway bill is the just the beginning.

This nightmare all began when Bill Clinton signed Executive Order 13112 in 1999, creating an "Invasive Species Council" to monitor and control "alien species." What are alien species? According to Clinton’s Order: "Alien species means, with respect to a particular ecosystem, any species, including seeds, eggs, spores, or other biological material capable of propagating that species, that is not native to that ecosystem."

Most agricultural crops and animal species clearly fall within the definition of "alien." Domesticated pets, many houseplants, and Kentucky bluegrass used in most lawns and golf courses are already defined as alien species. Indeed, this is all the greens and their allies in the federal government need to control all land in the U.S.

1. Call both of your Senators NOW and tell them to take ALL Invasive Species language out of the Highway bill! Most importantly, tell them that Section 166 (that section is titled: "Control of invasive plant species and establishment of native species") MUST GO! *** CARA Victory -- But Liberal Lamar Up to
New Tricks

Congrats! Thanks to your efforts, Sen. Lamar Alexander’s (RINO-TN) backdoor scheme to insert the CARA (the so-called "Conservation and Reinvestment Act") land grab scheme into next year’s budget was stopped! Liberal Lamar tried to siphon over a billion dollars of guaranteed money from oil drilling revenues to the Land and Water Conservation Fund -- this "fund" is the chief federal money pot for government land grabs. Thanks to lead negotiators in the House, Liberal Lamar’s land grab boondoggle was dropped from the final budget.

HOWEVER, when it comes to grabbing land, few are as tenacious as Lamar. He’s not taking this recent defeat lying down. Lamar has instituted a multi-step plan to slip CARA through in the dark of night. The first step is found in section 308 of next year’s budget. This section says that any money that Congress generates from energy development projects, that money can be used to fund a CARA-type land grab program.

Earlier this year, Liberal Lamar spelled out exactly what his latest CARA scheme will do. "This money would be used by states, cities and communities to create neighborhood parks, greenways, and land trusts," says Alexander. "This would help build state parks and greenways and land trusts, closer to where people live, near their homes."

Got that?! Lamar’s land grabs will be coming closer to where YOU live -- near YOUR homes. His envisioned parks and greenways will be comprised of YOUR private property.

* Action to Take *

1. Call, fax, and E-mail Senator Judd Gregg and tell him to oppose Lamar Alexander’s land grab language in section 308 of the budget resolution. Senator Gregg is the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee so it is vital that he oppose Liberal Lamar’s land grab scheme. American needs more oil and energy -- NOT more land grabs! Sen. 2. Call both of your Senators and tell them oppose Lamar Alexander’s land grab scheme. Lamar wants potentially billions of dollars, in guaranteed money, to fund more government land grabs. He is trying to siphon these billions from oil revenues – money that is desperately needed to harvest more oil, NOT grab more land! *** National ID Nightmare About to Come True

It appears that the House and Senate are about to pass the REAL ID Act. This is a dark day for privacy and liberty in America.

- The REAL ID Act requires the linking of all state driver’s license databases -- thereby creating one massive database harnessing the private details of every U.S. citizen.

- The REAL ID Act requires that all state driver’s licenses have a common machine-readable technology, including a digital photo of the card holder. Of course, much more intrusive information will likely be required in the near future.

- The REAL ID Act gives the federal government the unprecedented power to dictate what data states collect for license holders. This could include virtually anything, including fingerprints and/or eye retina scans known as "eye-prints."

The REAL ID Act is a national ID scheme, plain and simple. It is NOT a border security bill, as some have tried to spin it. In fact, the bill still permits illegal aliens to acquire driver’s licenses!

Congress has sold you out. Both the House and the Senate snuck through the REAL ID Act as an attachment to a funding bill for our troops in Iraq. No debates or hearings were held on the REAL ID Act. No concerns from limited government advocates were heard. The House and Senate also ignored pleas from the States not to pass the REAL ID Act. The States know that it will be a massively expensive, bureaucratic mess. Privacy advocates know that it will be a Big Brother nightmare come true. The bill was just rammed through because the federal government wanted the power to create a national ID system, and they didn’t care about anything else.

Thanks to the REAL ID Act, our nation isn’t any safer -- just less free. Untold billions of dollars that could have gone toward REAL anti-terrorism measures, such as: increased border security; the location and deportation of illegal immigrants; strengthened cockpit doors in planes; and more armed pilots will now go toward harvesting the personal information of every American and tracking every American’s whereabouts.

Where the fight goes from here has yet to be determined. Stay tuned.

 

*** Join Tom DeWeese at Camp American

That’s right. This summer I’m going to camp. Well, actually I’m going to teach at camp. Camp American is a one-week adventure designed to teach students, ages 12 to 19, about our nation’s Christian heritage and the proper role of good government. This year’s theme is "For such a time as this."

Camp American will have two camps in operation this year. From June 10-25, campers will be gathering at Pokagon State Park in Angola, Indiana. That’s the camp where I’ll be teaching property rights. The other camp will be held at Harrison-Crawford State Forest in Corydon, Indiana, from June 24-30. Other topics (divided between the two camps) will include the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution; the growth of government; gun rights and freedom through out the world; global warming, the sky isn’t falling; there will even be a mini Civil War re-enactment. Instructors will include Dr. Michael Coffman, Larry Pratt, Charles Smith, Barry Sheets, Chuck Michaelis, Maryland House Delegate Don Dwyer, and former presidential candidate Michael Peroutka.

And tell the kids that along with the instruction they’ll receive, there will be lots of fun at the camp too, including basketball, volleyball, water skiing, tubing, miniature golf, chess, checkers, campfires, arts and crafts, skit night, water gun fights, and a Hawaii Night.
