Rep. Tancredo Fights Back Against Illegal Immigrant ID Card—Your Action Needed!

May 29, 2003 Volume 6, Issue 8

APC is now offering you a quick and easy way to multiply your efforts and help win more battles! Simply click http://www.referralblast.com/rblast.asp?sid=5906 to send this APC Action Alert to up to TEN of your friends! It’s fast, it’s easy, and most of all, it’s extremely effective in KILLING LEFTIST POLICIES!

On April 30th the U.S. Treasury Department issued dangerous regulations that allow U.S. banks and other financial institutions to accept the Matricula Consular as valid identification for setting up accounts. The Matricula Consular is an ID card issued by the Mexican government, and handed out by 47 Mexican consular offices in the U.S. to illegal immigrants to make it easier for them to obtain services in the United States. Apparently, our government didn’t learn anything from 9/11. These regulations will go into effect tomorrow, May 30th.

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) recently introduced two pieces of legislation that would thwart the acceptance of the Matricula Consular. "Since only illegal aliens would need to carry such cards for identification purposes, or need them to open bank accounts, the regulations indicate that the Treasury Department is out of step with the American people and AWOL in the battle to stem the epidemic of illegal immigration," said Rep. Tancredo.

The first bill is House Joint Resolution 58. H.J. Res. 58 would effectively stop the Treasury Department’s regulations cold in their tracks and end the accepted use of the Matricula Consular at U.S. financial institutions. HOWEVER, H.J. Res. 58 MUST BE PASSED within the next TWO MONTHS to do so!

Rep. Tancredo has also authored another very important bill: H.R. 502. This bill would prohibit federal agencies from accepting the Matricula Consular for the distribution of public services to illegal aliens. Amazingly, some government institutions actually accept this foreign ID, used by illegal aliens, as valid identification to obtain services and even driver’s licenses! This is a serious threat to the security of our nation. H.R. 502 MUST BE PASSED!

**Action to Take**

1. Call your Representative and urge him/her to cosponsor, support and pass House Joint Resolution 58. Explain that this resolution MUST PASS by July 30th in order to stop banks from accepting the Matricula Consular (illegal alien ID card). There is no time to waste! House Switchboard: (202) 225-3121. Simply ask for your Representative by name. If you prefer to E-mail your Representative (though calling is MUCH more effective) go to http://www.americanpolicy.org/congresslinks.htm and follow the instructions.

2. Call your Representative and urge him/her to cosponsor and support H.R. 502. Federal agencies must NEVER accept the Matricula Consular in exchange for goods and services. Why should illegal aliens receive benefits paid for by American taxpayers??? They’re breaking the law by being here ILLEGALLY! House Switchboard: (202) 225-3121. Simply ask for your Representative by name. If you prefer to E-mail your Representative (though calling is MUCH more effective) go to http://www.americanpolicy.org/congresslinks.htm and follow the instructions.

3. Call Rep. Tom Tancredo and THANK HIM for being one of the few in Congress who is willing to stand up to this injustice and terrible threat to our security. Let him know you’re behind him 100% on these bills! Rep. Tom Tancredo Phone: (202) 225-7882. Fax: (202) 226-4623. E-mail: tom.tancredo@mail.house.gov.

House Passes Healthy Forests Restoration Act
—Will the Senate Follow?

Recently, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1904, the "Healthy Forests Restoration Act," in an effort to save millions of acres of forestland and surrounding communities from the imminent threat of catastrophic wildfire. With wildfire season just around the corner, this couldn’t have come at a better time. The Act is part of President Bush’s Healthy Forests Initiative, which seeks to treat and thin neglected forestland, especially the land that surrounds homes and communities, in order to safeguard areas from wildfire.

Green groups have been practicing a policy of obstruction and destruction on our nation’s forests. They continue to file lawsuits and appeals that prevent proper maintenance of wooded areas. The result is overrun forests that are rife with decay and disease. Environmentalists know that they’re turning our forests into virtual tinderboxes; they just don’t care so long as they can close off land from any human contact—their only true goal. In the past three years alone, our nation has lost more than 17 million acres of forest and hundreds of homes to catastrophic wildfire. The Healthy Forests Restoration Act would clear the way for proper maintenance and help to avoid another disastrous wildfire season.

Senator Pete Domenici, Chairman of the Senate Energy Committee, has announced that he will introduce the Senate’s version of the Healthy Forests Restoration Act in the coming weeks. It must garner support FAST and pass as soon as possible!

**Action to Take**

1. Call both of your senators and urge them to support and help pass the Healthy Forests Initiative. Wildfire season is just around the corner! Senate Switchboard: (202) 224-3121.
