The Energy Policy Act of 2003 (S. 14) is now being debated on the floor of the Senate. This is a major piece of legislation, as it will dramatically change the scope of our nation’s energy policy. An all out war has begun between those who think the Energy Bill should actually cultivate the production of more energy and those (the global warming crowd) who think that the key to more energy is restricting the amount of energy that Americans are "allowed" consume.
Specifically, there are two items that DEMAND our attention and action.
GOOD: Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) is expected to offer an amendment to S. 14, which if approved, would allow for environmentally sound oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Her amendment would confine exploration and drilling to a mere 2,000 acres of the 19 million acre refuge. Drilling wouldn’t compromise environmental quality in the least, PLUS over 99% of ANWR would remain totally untouched. Harvesting oil from ANWR would produce hundreds of thousands of jobs, and could provide up to 16 billion barrels of oil. This amount of oil is the same as 30 YEARS of oil imported from Saudi Arabia! Bottom line: Any radical green against this proposal is simply anti-energy, anti-growth, anti-jobs and anti-oil independence—NOT pro-environment.
BAD: The global warming alarmists plan to destroy this bill along with our economy. The usual green suspects (Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), John Kerry (D-MA), and James Jeffords (I-VT)) plan on trying to add the most dangerous provisions of the United Nations’ Kyoto global warming treaty to S. 14. The anti-energy crowd wants to create a White House climate czar, who will essentially serve as a green lobbyist to the president. They also want to limit the amount of carbon dioxide that automobiles and companies are allowed to emit—all at the expense of economic growth and health. Dangerous, disastrous measures bolstered by nothing but the weak, unproven theory that man is warming the planet. They MUST be stopped.
** Action to Take **
1. Call both of your Senators and tell them to support amendments to the Energy Bill that allow for oil drilling in ANWR. America needs oil, NOT radical energy restrictions! Senate Switchboard: (202) 224-3121. Simply ask for your Senators by name.
2. Call Sen. Lisa Murkowski and thank her for fighting for America’s energy future, and encourage her to introduce her amendment that would allow for drilling in ANWR. Let her know you’re in her corner. Senator Murkowski: (202) 224-6665.

Rep. Ron Paul pushing hard to get the U.S.
out of the U.N.!
Congressman Ron Paul has asked House Majority Leader, Tom DeLay (R-TX) for a fifteen minute vote on his bill, the American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003 (H.R. 1146). "More than ever, now is the time for the United States to get out of the United Nations. More Americans every day are questioning America's involvement in and support for the United Nations," says Rep. Paul.
Tom DeLay (along with Rep. Paul) has long been a champion of U.S. sovereignty, recently scoring a perfect 100% on the American Policy Center’s "Sovereignty Vote Index" which tracks how individual Congressmen vote on sovereignty issues.
There MUST be a vote on H.R. 1146! The time to get the U.S. out of the U.N. is NOW!
** Action to Take **
1. Call your Representative and urge him/her to support the American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003. Capitol Hill Switchboard: (202) 225-3121. Simply ask for your Representative by name.
2. Call and fax Rep. Tom DeLay. Thank him for his dedication to protecting American sovereignty and urge him to schedule H.R. 1146 for a vote in the House of Representatives. Rep. Delay: (202) 225-5951. Fax: (202) 225-5241.
