It took the tragedy of the California wildfires to finally get the attention of the Senate that SOMETHING had to be done to protect the environment and communities from catastrophic wildfire. Only after thousands of homes and nearly two-dozen lives were lost did they finally act and recently pass the Healthy Forest Restoration Act (H.R. 1904) on an 80-14 vote.

BUT DON’T CELEBRATE JUST YET!

As always, the greens and anti-property rights weasels in the Senate never miss a chance to exploit a critical situation. They have used the death and destruction in CA as an opportunity to advance their green agenda. Here are the evils of the Senate version of the Healthy Forests Restoration Act:

1) Title VI of the Senate bill calls for the creation of a "Public Land Corps." This is modeled after Bill Clinton’s horrendous "Americorps" program, designed to brainwash disadvantaged children, teens and young adults into little soldiers for Liberalism. The only difference is that the PUBLIC LAND CORPS will be training and turning-out entire LEGIONS of little green activists! All with your hard-earned tax dollars, of course.

2) Section 1102 of the Senate bill calls for a whole new regulatory scheme to reduce "non-native invasive plants." THIS IS INVASIVE SPECIES LEGISLATION! Essentially, this give millions of dollars in grant money to green groups like The Nature Conservancy to run roughshod over communities and landowners—swallowing everything that the Endangered Species Act hasn’t already devoured.

3) Title X of the Senate bill institutes the "Highlands Region Conservation" program. This is a FEDERAL ZONING plan to be run by the NATIONAL PARK SERVICE covering over TWO MILLION ACRES in PA, NJ, NY and CT. Of course, it will only be a matter of time before this program for the Highlands Region spreads NATIONWIDE.

NOTE: These three DISASTROUS provisions listed above MAY NOT BE ALL that is severely wrong with the Senate version. The bill is extremely large and we haven’t had a chance to review it in its entirety.

The nation has needed this Healthy Forests Restoration Act now for YEARS. The House version, which was passed all the way back in May, is a GOOD BILL. However, the Senate version is a GREEN TROJAN HORSE, carrying the promise of Healthy Forests with the reality of GREEN DESTRUCTION.

The House and Senate are currently conferencing together and vetting out the differences in the two versions of H.R. 1904. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE SUPPORT THE HOUSE VERSION—NOT THE SENATE!

The nation needs Healthy Forests—NOT GREEN TYRANNY!

Heritage Areas Land Grab Passes Subcommittee

Property rights advocates were sold-out last week. The following Heritage Area bills were passed by the House Subcommittee on National Parks:

- H.R. 280: "The National Aviation Heritage Area" sponsored by Rep. David Hobson (R-OH)

-H.R. 1862: "The Oil Region National Heritage Area" sponsored by Rep. John Peterson (R-PA)

-H.R. 1618: "The Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area" sponsored by Denise Majette (D-GA)

-H.R. 1594: "The St. Croix National Heritage Area" sponsored by Rep. Donna Christensen (D-Virgin Islands)

The vote wasn’t even recorded. Instead, these land grabs were passed by "unanimous consent" so each Representative on the subcommittee could hide their dirty deed from the American public.

Our sources have shown us that certain "property rights protections" were inserted into the above bills as a result of our efforts. We’ve been told that we should be happy about this. Well we are NOT! While some of the property rights language added was decent and necessary, make no mistake! THESE HERITAGE AREAS ARE HORRENDOUS LAND AND POWER GRABS FOR GREENS AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Heritage Areas are SPECIFICALLY designed to allow the National Park Service and green preservation groups dictate the land-use and zoning practices of local communities. PERIOD! No amount of fuzzy, warm, feel-good property rights "protections" can make Heritage Areas safe for landowners, business owners and communities.

These Heritage Areas essentially implement federal zoning. Federal money for Heritage Areas is administered through the National Park Service to preservation groups that are directed to preserve everything within the Heritage Area that is relevant to the Heritage Area. In other words, the Park Service teams up with local greens to take away YOUR private property rights. Once an area becomes a Heritage Area, local control over zoning and land use is lost. Mccain/Lieberman Global Warming Bill Rebuffed by Senate

Last Thursday, the Senate rejected the McCain/Lieberman plan to ruin the U.S. economy on a 55-43 vote. S. 139 (The Climate Stewardship Act) would have required businesses to drastically reduce their output of carbon dioxide for the sake of green politics, as there would be ZERO environmental benefit. S. 139 is simply a lighter version of the U.N.’s Kyoto Protocal—an international treaty to combat so-called global warming.

The last time the Senate voted on a reduction of carbon dioxide output was in 1997, when the Kyoto Protocol was rejected by an overwhelming 95-0 vote.

Last week, the ever-angry, oft-maniacal McCain was encouraged by the number of votes S. 139 garnered, and vowed green vengeance: "I want to assure my colleagues we will be back."

Senator Jim Inhofe had a more rational take on the vote: "A majority of the Senate today told the American people that mandatory carbon dioxide reductions are unacceptable, and rightly so. The science underlying this bill has been repudiated, the economic costs are far too high and the environmental benefits are nonexistent."

Well said, Sen. Inhofe. HOWEVER, this is an issue on which property rights folks, advocates of limited government and SANE people everywhere MUST NOT go to sleep. Senators McCain and Lieberman will certainly return with this disaster of a bill. For the sake of the American economy and our way of life, it must NEVER pass.
